Semarang – Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), in collaboration with its industry partner PT Dua Putra Perkasa (DPP), has taken a strategic step to advance Indonesia’s shrimp industry by learning directly from modern aquaculture practices in China.
This initiative was carried out through an international study visit to several aquaculture industry centers in Xiamen and Guangzhou in April 2026. The delegation consisted of academic representatives from multiple faculties. From the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), the delegation included Prof. Agus Trianto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Dean and Lecturer in Marine Science), Dr. Agus Suherman, S.Pi., M.Si. (Lecturer in Capture Fisheries), Prof. Dr. Ir. Sarjito, M.App.Sc. (Lecturer in Aquaculture), and Dr. Nuril Azhar, S.Kel., M.Si. (Lecturer in Fisheries and Marine Technology and Business). They contributed expertise in aquaculture practices, marine biotechnology, shrimp health, and biosecurity systems.
From the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Jati Utomo Dwi Hatmoko, S.T., M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. examined pond construction design and modern water management systems to support intensive aquaculture. Meanwhile, from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Prof. Dr. Harjum Muharam, S.E., M.E. (Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs) and Mirwan Surya Perdhana, S.E., M.M., Ph.D. (Head of the Master of Management Program) analyzed aspects related to financing, business efficiency, and human resource management.
Together with industry partners, the delegation conducted direct observations of high-technology shrimp farming systems. During the visit, they explored various key aspects, including production efficiency, the implementation of advanced technologies, and sustainable and environmentally friendly pond management practices.
In addition, strategic discussions were held with local industry stakeholders to explore opportunities for international collaboration, technology transfer, and the enhancement of Indonesia’s fisheries productivity.
This collaboration between Undip and PT DPP represents a long-term effort to strengthen the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s shrimp industry. The development focus is directed toward innovation, improving production quality, and adapting to international standards.
Through this initiative, Undip reinforces its role as an academic institution that excels not only in education and research but also in bridging synergy between academia and industry. It is expected that the knowledge and experience gained from a country with an advanced aquaculture industry like China can be effectively implemented in Indonesia.
This effort also underscores Undip’s commitment to supporting the development of a marine and fisheries sector that is innovative, sustainable, and globally competitive.
